Experimentations in Gouache

In this class we will explore gouache through brushwork, layering, and color play.  Students will learn about this wonderful and versatile medium by painting landscapes, still life, portraits, and be guided through intuitive experimentation. Helpful handouts will be given to aid students with drawing skills if needed.

5 week course. Thursday evenings via Zoom, 6-7:30pm PST

October 26, Nov. 2,9, 16, 30 ( No class on Thanksgiving)

In this class, we will learn all about gouache. We will break down hot to use gouache, and how it differs from other painting mediums. Every week, we will explore a different topic, such as transparency, gradients, color theory, and using mixed media. This class meets online every Thursday via Zoom for 6 weeks.

Join us as we document our travels through a virtual world tour.

With this class, students will take their travel sketchbook drawings to the next level.  We will focus on landscapes, cityscapes, and people in these environments. We will paint photo references from the Netherlands, Italy, Thailand, Japan, New Zealand, and the Caribbean.

This class requires some knowledge of watercolors. We will also touch on using gouache. Students will be provided with the photographs in advance so that they may prepare the initial sketch as we will need the entire class time to focus on painting.

Thursdays at 6pm PST, October 13- November 17

Have you ever wanted to keep track of all the beautiful things in nature? With this class, you’ll be prepared to take your nature drawings to the next level.  We will focus on things we might find on a walk, hike, or even your backyard.  From flowers to trees, we will break down shapes, color, and journaling details. With nature being such a wide realm, this class will get to vote on the items we paint in class.

Even if you have never painted before but have wanted to start, this class will give you the skills you need to start your sketchbook journaling practice. Whether you have never sketched before or want to start a consistent practice, this class is for you.

Thursdays at 6pm PST, March 24- April 28

With this class, you’ll be prepared to make your sketchbook a part of your daily life.  Can’t think of what to sketch?  Afraid you have to create the perfect artwork in your sketchbook?  Would you like to learn a new or revive a hobby with little cost? If you answered yes, this is the perfect class to get you on your way to a creative habit. I will teach you all about simple materials such as pen and watercolor.  We will learn about different types of layouts. You will also find your style and improve your skills.  Whether you have never sketched before or want to start a consistent practice, this class is for you.
